Getting ready for Hidden Valley Race Track

Today, Sunday the 6th of October, the team is getting ready to move from our private garage to join the rest of the solar car teams at Hidden Valley tomorrow. During this upcoming week before the race starts, on the 13th of October, we will do several tests on the Hidden Valley Race Track. Among other things, we will investigate the energy consumption of the car but also mechanical tests including brakes and speed tests etc.

Earlier this week the mechanics, electronics and energy teams had their hands full fixing the last details on the car and implementing technical systems to make the car as efficient as possible. At the same time the logistics team have planned the trip down to Adelaide, by buying tents and other things which will be useful in the wilderness. The marketing & economics team have worked with daily updates and external communication, economical accounting and preparing food.

Besides this we have also made several tests to make sure that the car delivers the expected performance. For example, we have investigated how much energy Viking has generated at specific times of the day, including from sunrise to 8:00 and from 17:00 until sunset. During the race this will be the time slots where we are able to stand still and charge the car’s battery, this since the car is only allowed to drive between 08:00 and 17:00.
